Developing a model of experiencing spousal violence in women based on personality traits with a mediating role of psychological distress

Introduction: One of the manifestations violence against women is spousal abuse. Due to patriarchy in Iranian societies, abuse mainly applied by men and various forms. Aim: The present study aimed develop a model experiencing based on personality traits with mediating role psychological distress. Method: an applied-fundamental research terms aim descriptive, structural equations type implementation. population consisted all referring divorce counseling, welfare, social emergency counseling centers Sanandaj 2021. Among them, 400 were selected using convenience sampling method. instruments included Spousal Abuse, Dark Personality Traits, Alexithymia Psychological Distress questionnaires. SPSS-25 SmartPLS-3.2.8 software was used analyze data. Results: results showed that dark (β=0.351), alexithymia (β=0.168) distress (β=0.470) have direct positive (p<0.001) impact abuse, (β=0.198) (β=0.207) indirectly through had significant effect standardized root mean squared residual 0.067, indicating good fit model. Conclusion: Women high scores alexithymia, are more likely be abused their husbands. By controlling these characteristics, it possible change behavior spouses towards women, finally, prevent further harms.
